I party so welcome back to another episode of Real Talk I'm dr. Nadia comenta snatcher Pathak Doctor
0:10
whoa feedback whoa anyways guys today we
0:16
have you know what actually at first I wasn't that interested to talk about today's topic but then we started
0:23
learning about it and getting into it and it turns out that in the indoor air
0:29
pollution is what we're addressing today and how it actually affects everybody
0:44
dedicated their entire mission is dedicated towards improving indoor air
0:49
quality so they actually have a lot of products like air purifiers and filters
0:55
and non-toxic products to improve indoor air quality and filter out things that cause issues and people things like
1:02
allergens fragrances VOCs dust bacteria there is so much that we hadn't really
1:09
considered no and companies like embark lens are teaching us yeah about these
1:16
products as well and how important they are absolutely what you guys just saw is actually one of their air purification
1:21
units so we're gonna talk a little bit about that in a bit stay tuned we will
1:26
be rolling our intro and be right back [Music]
1:52
welcome back guys welcome back guys so indoor air pollution so this is
2:00
interesting and in a second we're gonna roll some Streeters for you guys as well cuz we went to the streets of Toronto
2:05
talking to people about indoor air pollution and it's not something that's really top of mind because the first
2:10
thing when you think about pollution you're always thinking about the outdoors mhm smog pollution cityscapes
2:17
cars exhaust fumes and a lot of people are very surprised actually when you
2:22
find out so here's a stat actually for you guys that I asked people in the street errs to is that our indoor air
2:29
quality is actually around two to five times worse inside so what exactly like
2:35
what do you mean when you say that our indoor air is 2 to 5 times yeah lower
2:41
quality times worse than outdoor air so there was a study done by the EPA Environmental Protection Agency this was
2:48
done a little bit earlier in late 80s 90s but they did tests around 12 or the
2:53
most common organic pollutants okay or the pollutants in the air and they
2:58
tested it outside and inside and they found that it was up to 2 to 5 times higher inside which actually it makes
3:04
sense it does because air flow in a home yeah and the stagnant amount of air in a
3:11
home would be much higher and it's a condensed space versus outside where
3:17
things can be diluted moved etcetera you know it's funny the way I think about it is sort of an equation where its outdoor
3:25
and air pollution plus all the things in your home equals indoor air pollution where I outdoor air
3:31
pollution is just outdoor air pollution right so what's that from outside that you bring in every time you walk in and
3:37
you open the window and it's all the things inside - that's really true actually yeah and I mean we're gonna get
3:43
into who feels the effect most of who is most susceptible to the effects of
3:49
indoor air pollution and who is most at risk of having bad quality air indoors
3:55
yeah but why don't we take a look at the Streeters fantastic people of Toronto
4:01
and what they had to say about indoor air pollution let's roll [Music]
4:08
hi guys this is Alina from the hardy soul and we're here in the streets of Toronto asking people if they ever think
4:15
about indoor air pollution or consider it at all here's what they had to say first question what comes to your mind
4:21
when you think of pollution exhaust from cars sitting and idling in traffic I think about smog like a car pollution
4:29
air pollution general dirt in the environment when someone says pollution
4:35
do you ever think about the air inside your home sometimes like mold and all
4:42
kinds of things inside the house that can be like making you sick and you never realize exactly so it's actually two to five times worse right yeah
4:49
that's crazy that's pretty bad not much I can really
5:01
do I try to deed us as much as I can and watch for mold and everything definitely an air purifier would be good because my
5:07
dog gets actually this stuff in his eye from allergies inside well I live in a
5:13
condo and it's I moved in pre-construction so if you can think about all the stuff going on outside
5:19
construction and concrete dust virtually have a buildup on our floors in the condo of concrete dust every day so at
5:25
one of the first things we did was buy an air purifier how often do you dust or cleaning vacuum once every two weeks
5:31
like a minor dusting like every like week or week and a half I'm a really bad cleaner so probably not as much as I
5:38
said guys see any symptoms in yourself like
5:43
allergies or congestion I guess maybe like dry eyes when they have allergies
5:50
to dust so yeah sometimes yeah I got like hives if I'm if it's dusty and I'm
5:55
cleaning and so my boyfriend on the other hand gets has pretty much like a chronic cough since we moved into the
6:00
condo sometimes like it got a bit like more like a horse and I know something like I wake up just one day and I'm like oh I'd sound terrible guys hope you guys
6:14
enjoyed that and then you know what's interesting there is that so many people were surprised all right which is I I
6:20
don't like I don't feel I would be the same this is kind of it's not completely
6:27
new to me but the severity and the amount of indoor air pollution and the solutions
6:32
to it are all very new to me yeah so a lot of those people that you guys saw - you know some of them in heard of air
6:39
purifiers but some just didn't know what to do really beyond just like dusting yeah or what other methods there really
6:46
are to improve air quality we're talking about a humidifier yeah which more people I would say are familiar with
6:52
than an actual air purifier so actually now that we are touching upon it what is the difference then between a
6:59
humidifier and an air purifier although we are gonna get into air purifiers a bit more later on mm-hmm since we
7:05
brought it up well it's exactly what it sounds like guys a humidifier is an adding humidity to the air and so
7:13
different examples of why people use humidifiers especially in the colder winter months when the air can be very
7:19
dry that can actually end up being irritating to a lot of your mucous membranes so the inside of your mouth
7:25
and your eyes and your nose so adding a little bit of moisture to the air can be soothing and beneficial and actually
7:32
help reduce some illnesses colds and flus now the interesting thing about an air
7:38
purifier is when we're actually talking about so microorganisms like molds in the home
7:46
we do not want humidity right because humidity and moisture and misses all of those
7:51
things that's moving increased mold in the homes yeah yeah mold loves the moist
7:56
okay so we are gonna talk more about mold very very short boys to the gross or yeah more reasons not to like mold
8:06
but actually that's a great point so mold is one of those sources I guess it'd be great to recap for you guys as
8:11
well what other sources are of pollutants because people you should just think of dust yes or mold so but
8:16
what else and actually I think even before we go there yeah who needs to pay
8:22
attention so who is at risk like who and why do we care about indoor pollutants
8:28
because this was important to me when I started looking at this was because I was like oh is does this apply to
8:34
absolutely everyone on the one hand it does because everyone for the most part hopefully is fortunate enough to live in
8:42
a sheltered home however there's definitely certain people and populations who are more at risk and
8:49
more affected by poor quality indoor air so for example if you are someone who
8:56
suffers from severe allergies or have asthma your indoor air quality will
9:03
affect your symptoms I'd say allergic type conditions things
9:09
like eczema or psoriasis if you find you're more sensitive to air tense and triggers maybe at home absolutely so a
9:16
big thing is actually individuals who suffer from something called multiple chemical sensitivity air purifiers and
9:25
the quality of their indoor air actually can be significant when it comes to
9:30
reducing the triggers that cause their symptoms so so it's interesting actually
9:37
the company that we mentioned earlier in viruses I believe that part of their mission statement and the reason that
9:43
they actually started the company too was for that very reason for multiple chemical sensitivity yes I want to ask
9:49
you because you're pointing at me with your pen
9:56
because I think a lot of people are gonna be wondering this as well yeah is is multiple chemical sensitivity a real
10:02
thing yes I I'm not sure if it has an actual diagnosis or if it's recognized in the medical field as yet so what are
10:09
your thoughts on that for sure yeah and it is actually really interesting because it is quite controversial and really what makes it
10:16
so controversial is it has not been excruciating ly clear what causes what
10:23
is the at what is at root of causing the symptoms associated with someone who suffers from multiple chemical
10:29
sensitivity so as it stands right now it's actually not recognized as
10:36
legitimate diagnosis except for in Germany and Austria interesting which is
10:42
interesting and now I think it's also important to note just because it's not
10:48
defined as a medical diagnosis that doesn't mean that the symptoms that
10:53
individuals suffer are not real for
10:59
example cannot stand the scent of perfume and some people don't like the scent of perfume at all but for them
11:05
they feel nauseous right or they have a headache yeah and they are sensitive to the
11:10
smallest of things and everything needs to be fragrance free odour free so they're not making it up and not in
11:16
their heads and there's multiple people with the situation so yeah it seems like it definitely does exist oh for sure the
11:21
symptoms are very real but the cause the exact cause of why that happens to
11:27
someone isn't fully understood right now and I think it's important to note so as
11:33
a hallmark to you to those who are even wondering you know what does that even mean what what are the symptoms of
11:38
someone who has multiple chemical sensitivities you're really looking at symptoms that affect multiple organ
11:45
systems so not only would you potentially get migraines your eyes can become irritated you might get skin
11:52
sensitivities brain fog pain nausea
11:57
discomfort a variety of diffuse and hard to pinpoint symptoms yeah it's like you
12:04
could always so many other things yeah oh is this a gluten intolerance yeah am i just not
12:10
working out and mine is sleeping properly so then you probably feel like a bit of a crazy person you can't have for sure like yeah it seems right and
12:18
absolutely and these are also so what it's referred to is a diagnosis of exclusion which really means it's kind
12:26
of you go through the list of possible things it could be and when none of these make sense
12:31
it is kind of the catch-all of what it could be at the end which can be frustrating so taking so many others
12:40
exactly yes and it can be really you know devastating for people who suffer
12:46
from it because I'm sure that I don't even want to know how many doctors that they've gone to see that don't
12:51
understand the symptoms or can't pinpoint a cause and then they end up feeling like people don't believe them
12:58
or they're making their symptoms up and I mean that can be utterly frustrating for any patient no could you have
13:04
multiple chemical sensitivity to put just a few things though like one or two certain triggers or is it you are
13:11
sensitive to a broad range of things and I ask because you know specifically thinking about me when it comes to
13:16
regular perfumes mm-hmm I've noticed when I go to parties and there's a lot of women wearing their Chanel and their
13:23
Gucci and those perfumes that's when I get red eyes bright and watery and I'm
13:29
sneezing like amazing but it doesn't happen that much in other environments so so when I would specifically that's a
13:36
really good example that is almost a clear trigger case whereas someone who has exactly as it says multiple chemical
13:43
sensitivities they are in the name but
13:49
no it's a good question they really those can be triggers for them but they're getting triggered by a multitude
13:56
of different things that can be hard to fully pinpoint and eliminate but as you
14:03
mentioned kind of it so in viral cleanse this company that we're talking about the most today they specifically created
14:11
a lot of their air purification units to help remove those triggers that exist in
14:17
the as irritants okay but that's a big one yeah okay so it seems MCs we've
14:22
definitely talked about those are some people who would really benefit from air purifiers or improving their indoor air
14:30
quality but there are so many other people yeah lots of other people who if
14:35
you live in a basement if you live in a warm climate warm or humid climate yeah
14:41
you know mold mold thrives as we mentioned mold loves moist I think also
14:47
someone who lives in an area where there's a lot of construction - yeah so yes there's a city environment probably
14:53
everyone would benefit from something like an air purifier but what if you're around a lot of construction all the
14:59
time solution and you usually keep your windows open and even if there's a frame guys even if there's a screen right yeah
15:04
so letting those things in and or if you have no windows because that means that
15:09
your air flow is completely reduced no ventilation absolutely and I mentioned the moisture because mold so we're gonna
15:16
get into mold but mold is serious like very dangerous mold is actually
15:21
extremely dangerous and sometimes it's visible but a lot of the times it's actually not yeah so and there's
15:28
different kinds of mold that we're gonna get into too but who else it's also children children the elderly the
15:35
elderly they are very vulnerable and actually I was thinking of new parents too oh yeah cuz you really want to be
15:41
careful in your home cuz your babies have very weak immune systems in the beginning you want to make sure that
15:46
your indoor air quality is awesome yeah also because your children are on the
15:52
floor or touching lots of surfaces they are eating everything they're exploring
15:57
the world with their mouths so everything yeah or if you know you or if
16:07
you have a lot of pets in the house oh my god anyone with pets yeah gonna be hair all over the place especially pet
16:12
dander yep yeah absolutely older homes if you live in an older home or if you live in a home where a smoker
16:19
used to live that can be really damaging because the toxins emitted from that it's extremely difficult to get that out
16:27
of the pain on your walls carpeting if you have a ton of carpeting in your home carpets
16:32
are one they're literally a sponge for a lot of the toxins and the dust and allergens that can accumulate in your
16:39
home and you know what else I just thought of people who are maybe renovating their homes oh yeah if you're renovating it's always
16:46
a state a bit of construction I guess yeah that's definitely we're gonna have more airborne particles and dust
16:52
bothering you or even a new home and VOCs where you have you know you have varnishes and chemical treatments and
16:59
cleaners and different things that are emitting their own that they all contribute to the quality of your air
17:13
duralee this is what happened we started I mean because we prepare for these shows right and we sit together we talk
17:19
about well we want to go through and as we started researching this topic we were kind of like oh man I think this
17:25
applies to everybody yeah nice to me oh my god do you have a cab yeah I live in a city there's construction here buy so
17:32
it applies to so many of us guys yeah okay so that's who should I guess be concerned definitely some people are a
17:38
bit more susceptible to others yeah but it seems everyone should be interested in this topic now we should talk about
17:45
sources yes absolutely and you touched upon one nolde most let's talk mold and
17:51
then I will talk volatile organic compounds okay cuz mold is the real deal guys so there's three major types of
17:57
mold that you can find in your house at varying levels of severity so you have
18:02
allergenic mold which exactly is the name states is a common cause for allergens things like dust particles yes
18:11
and then you have pathogenic mold which can cause things like infections so
18:16
sinusitis and other more pathological diseases that kind of caused from it and
18:22
then you actually have toxic mold so that's the scary black mold I've seen all over the internet which people
18:29
usually say do not touch and let an expert investigate yeah no black mold is
18:35
no joke it can be fatal actually it can severely damage your
18:40
lungs kill you okay so it's been linked to some cancers I believe to death the
18:46
death mole black mold equals death most serious seriously yeah yeah it's not a joke yeah so if you guys do see mold in
18:53
your home really into video you're a
19:00
pollution in the last couple of hours and especially black mold seriously yeah seriously if you do see black holes and
19:06
especially in places like your the grouting in your bathroom I think is where alone no see it yes right like in
19:13
those corners you just sort of see it start growing absolutely any areas of your home that comes into any sort of
19:19
high moisture so think bathrooms basements kitchen if you've actually
19:26
previously had flooding or piping issues any of those areas are susceptible to to
19:33
mold and you know what anyone any part of our audience right now has been exposed to the hurricane perhaps too
19:41
yeah letting an extra rain this year this is something to keep in mind yeah absolutely not that there I mean
19:48
obviously there is enough heartache and trouble that you would be going through right now but seriously thinking about
19:54
the effect that mold might have afterwards is something to think about
20:00
okay so that's mold mold scary yeah
20:06
number one you volatile organic compounds yes is that how it's
20:12
pronounced I think it's VOCs VOCs but sure bucks you heard it first
20:18
on realtalk when not in aleena a box but volatile organic compounds are basically
20:23
these chemicals that are emitted in the form of gases from products such as
20:30
varnishes and paint so yeah upholstery
20:37
as well so it's a lot of things in your homes guys yeah definitely in some and
20:43
you know what it usually comes hand-in-hand on with fragrances yeah as well at the same time fragrances and
20:48
things like your laundry detergent actually those fragrance or fragrance I guess but VOCs in your dry
20:55
cleaning as well because when you think about it guys and you go and get your dry cleaning back does that have that
21:01
dry cleaning smell I know sometimes it does okay no maybe you shouldn't
21:07
after learning about indoor air pollution or you should do a green or eco-friendly dry cleaner which we're
21:12
gonna talk about with these guys as well in a bit but yeah dry cleaning too is submersion of BOC calls perc and that
21:20
smell that you have afterwards and dry cleaning that's that's that's what that
21:25
is so one solution and we'll talk about alternatives to would be to even hang your dry cleaning okay guys so we've got
21:36
mold we've got VOCs we also have so fragrances a separate category separate
21:43
separate hand-in-hand we also have potential pesticides which I thought was interesting this is more so and I yeah
21:51
I'd have to kind of take a look at the research myself I briefly looked but there has been some tracking of outdoor
21:57
pesticides being brought into the home space especially if you are living close
22:02
to farmlands etc that could be a real problem too there was a study actually before they
22:07
found and I will link to the study afterwards as well where they found that 80% of exposure
22:14
one person's exposure to pesticides you get eighty percent of it at home whoa versus outdoors so you think you'd
22:20
get it outdoors as much but it's actually what you sort of bring back with you in our interesting pesticides
22:26
and sometimes even things and things like disinfectants huh that you have at
22:31
home right they are essentially pesticides or on the testicular tooth if you just leave them there and they're Oh
22:37
like not you've opened them once but they're not contained got it still going into the air too which is crazy yeah no
22:45
you really don't and this is where things like yeah cuz they're so subtle and I mean when you think of the air we
22:52
breathe if it doesn't have a scent or you can't see it and you really can't
22:59
live without it yeah it's difficult to think on how to measure and we're gonna get into how you can test your air
23:04
quality and what to do you in at-home solutions but yeah anyway
23:10
yeah that's the four biggest things I would say on top of of course just your
23:16
regular household dust pretty familiar with now in terms of how to actually
23:22
test it yeah we actually talked about no - is there a way to test nadia what
23:27
would you do yeah so I think I mean on the one hand if you know that you're
23:32
someone who already suffers from multiple chemical sensitivities or you have severe allergies thinking about an
23:41
air purification system and trying to do as many things as possible to eliminate
23:46
indoor air pollution kind of is a no-brainer but if you're really curious
23:51
on how to test the air quality in your home there's a couple different ways you can do it yeah so there are actually at
23:57
home kits that you can order you use the kit and then you actually end up sending
24:02
it to a third party lab so for them to do run the tests and Diagnostics for you yeah and then there's actually stand
24:09
devices or devices that you can keep in your home that kind of have a running tab you mid 'ti VOCs mold and one other
24:39
one is a common one that they do consistent readings for and then can send you to a handy dashboard or an app
24:45
whatever one you're looking for it's really not hard to get these multiple
24:54
ones I think some are chaos but some are specifically for mold if you're more worried about that some varieties yes
25:00
because if you specifically are worried about mold and so with mold specifically you I mean initially what you want to do
25:08
is a visual test so look to see if you can see it and any moisture ridden
25:16
areas also smell so if you smell a really earthy pungent smell constantly
25:24
that might be an indicator and if if you're really concerned do you want to
25:29
get a professional you definitely want to get a professional in your home the
25:34
black nestled the death mold yes you
25:42
want to get an expert you want to get a professional in there to help so one
25:47
that actually just came to mind for me right now which maybe resonates with some of you guys too is mold on my
25:53
shower curtain I think everybody deals with this one when you started saying yeah do you visually see mold I was like
26:00
yes they visually see more visually in my mind's eye thinking about my shower
26:05
curtain which I have to keep changing that line or yeah that's one of those most moist places which is gonna get
26:12
mold it's one of like you can't avoid it you just have to keep there my fears there must be mold free shower liners
26:19
there must there must be yeah I need you guys know any mold free shower liners
26:26
because I think that this must be this must exist and I mean luckily if you have washable ones actually in viral
26:33
cleanse has they do have air purifiers but they also have a line of different products and some of which are laundry
26:41
detergents that can help eliminate odors and especially if you're someone who
26:46
does a lot of thrift shopping and it's very difficult to get some of those smells out specific they have a
26:55
proprietary blend of minerals and natural minerals and materials that actually eliminate the odor and don't
27:00
just mask the odor with more fragrance which is a really common thing pull it
27:08
over
27:14
oh the granules the granules cuz you can just sort of sprinkle these wherever there is odor especially if you have
27:20
carpets at home just sort of sprinkle away and then you
27:26
can just clear it off after a yes so and remember guys it's important when you're
27:33
thinking about either eliminating odor or indoor air pollutants you don't want
27:39
to just trap and mask you actually want to eliminate so what that means is you
27:44
want to be able to have a chemical reaction that is eliminating the cause of the irritant or the pollutant or the
27:51
odor and that's actually a key differentiation between what common products do and what a lot of actual air
27:59
purifiers on the market do but in viral cleanse is really good and really interesting because they do both so not
28:07
only do they trap the pollutants and odor but then they're actually not just keeping it there they're creating a
28:13
chemical reaction which is eliminating the Polli yeah yes tell me about the
28:27
technology the technology based on my research so whether it's in barra cleanse or another product which you do
28:32
want to look for I think many air purifiers are using carbon oh yes yes
28:38
carbon filtration just takes out things like dust and bacteria and your very
28:43
basic particles down in the air but it is not actually addressing things like
28:49
your VOCs or your mold or other chemicals and fragrances correct which I
28:54
think environments actually can address because they're using nano technology
28:59
correct nano technology sounds so scientific yes and you're right they have to so they have to air purification
29:07
monitors so if you guys are seriously concerned and you're in one of the population groups that we were talked
29:12
about before there's two types of units that environs currently offers they have
29:18
a UV unit which is their newer model which actually does have mold elimination and microorganisms are
29:25
destroyed through the UV filtration process and then they have their older model which is not the UV and is better
29:31
just for dust and common allergens you'll see ISM all those types of things
29:37
exactly yeah that's definitely what you guys want to look for in an air purifier and since now that we're on the topic of
29:42
ways to improve your indoor air quality so there's definitely other ways that you can improve the indoor air quality
29:47
of your home so number one open new windows does everyone air purifier we
29:54
feel like is one of those I guess no brainers especially if you have chemical sensitivities yeah allergens etc you can
30:00
definitely get tested if you're more curious outside of an air purifier we
30:05
have so many ideas yeah number one so ventilation and using a fan so again
30:12
especially when I'm talking about moisture and mold in your bathroom if you don't have a fan right now it you
30:18
should get one installed immediately because you want to make sure that not a lot of condescend khandhas condensation
30:27
is building up and staying there because that is just going to attract the mold yeah and I believe you want to make sure
30:36
that your vents are all directed towards it going outside yes as well just
30:41
putting it back into the house like this yeah in your kitchen and your bathroom so you want to make sure the air is
30:47
going outside correct in terms of humidity because that's something you'd actually brought up earlier
30:52
mm-hmm that you want to make sure your air is not too humid correct you actually want to be humidify the air now
30:59
there's a way to actually test for it too um there is something you guys can buy again online it's like a human isn't
31:07
what can I do it like that can I just test it is the 33% humidity levels I
31:16
believe you want it to be like less than 50% is yeah you want to look for yeah
31:21
and when it comes to humidity and I'm looking for the name of the exact thing I don't even know how to say this but
31:28
I'm gonna try a hygrometer Oh hygrometer hy gr o meter high grow high grow or is
31:35
it heat it should be high girl okay yeah but it's something help test your humidity levels okay yeah
31:42
I'm not sure if I'm saying it right don't make fun of me guys but that is what you can do
31:47
so definitely doing that and then sorry and just as a household cleaning agent
31:54
and this is a good one too so if you guys do see some mold that you're concerned about you can create a couple
32:00
natural at-home solutions to try and eliminate it yourself I actually love Sandra thank you for tuning in
32:07
Sandra mentioned Gettis play a spray bottle mixed with bleach for mold so if
32:13
you actually were looking for something a little bit more gentle I believe you can try a vinegar and even a tea tree
32:20
oil because tea tree oil can be antifungal and anti-inflammatory and
32:38
then the mold actually spreading [Music] absolutely yeah like your shower is
32:47
going to be absolutely a heavy duty
32:52
stuff okay so we had mentioned trying to dehumidifier at home air purifiers
32:59
ventilation get rid of your carpets yeah it's probably one okay I'm not saying
33:04
that this is an easy thing to do all the carpets you're definitely not easy but it would be if there was one thing you
33:12
wanted to invest in for the quality of your air it would be get rid of your carpets yeah yeah or just keep a couple
33:19
area rugs here and there so your footsies don't get cold but in general
33:24
you wanna you want to get rid of carpet or if you you're someone who just absolutely loves carpets you want to
33:29
make sure you're cleaning them as thoroughly as possible or if you have old carpets get get rid of them and put
33:36
in at least newer carpets as an option because again they're just sponges they just keep accumulating the all of the
33:45
the skins and the pollutants and laughs i hate carpet
33:51
I don't I hate yes yeah would be even or
33:56
dogs or other pests no don't come inside
34:03
to animal cruelty with animals oh my
34:13
gosh so anyway ok guys be careful with yes and regularly cleaning it so that
34:18
brings me actually to another point which all your cleaners vacuuming oh yeah yeah just particular maintenance of
34:26
the home yeah yeah have time to do it as much it's sure hire someone even for a
34:32
few hours a week if it's possible yeah just make sure it gets done it's really really important and actually as I'm
34:38
thinking of cleaning I think that there's some people don't usually clean and then like you know what in the
34:47
bedroom behind the bed under the bed the top of the headboard mmm we call the
34:53
nooks and the crannies that's in the crannies because sometimes I can tell where I'm getting so stuffed up in the morning and I'm cleaning every week but
35:01
then I'm like oh wait there's this little gap between my bed and the wall I'm what we call a convenient cleaner so
35:08
if I don't get it's clean but if I hide it or move it yeah it's not there that's
35:17
exactly like me yes because he watches
35:24
to me lift objects he's like you have to clean under micromanager okay so yeah
35:34
another one is HVAC filters yes so those
35:40
can be used and they help to filter out air pollutants as you wouldn't imagine yeah and they could be put in furnaces
35:47
air conditioner Emily yeah I'm not gonna say 100% okay
35:53
but I'm pretty sure but the use of them and the regular renewal of them you want
35:58
to use a lot Oh another great one actually it's not
36:05
something I think people think about very often I know but this was a very surprising one for me but it's something
36:11
you can do immediately tonight as well right now now for $9.99 go home and do
36:17
this all you can do is when you have everyone has their cleaning supplies usually under their sink or somewhere or
36:24
they're kept to the corner yeah you should try to keep it in an airtight container because they're still sort of
36:30
leaking out or just trying to use
36:37
non-toxic cleaning supplies when possible as well yeah and especially if
36:43
you keep so we keep little paint as well that you don't end up using sometimes
36:49
gonna use it for like spot cleaning don't give me a funny oh okay you know
36:59
yes try to buy it in smaller quantities for a good call yeah yeah so don't buy
37:04
it in big quantities where it's just releasing more of those VOCs at home
37:10
apparently oh my gosh I know okay guys so as you can see indoor air pollution
37:16
we are literally living in and breathing it and bathing it all the time we went
37:24
through a couple reasons on and who would be most susceptible we talked a
37:29
little bit about what causes indoor air pollution and then we started talking about what we can do about it so just a
37:36
reminder this was sponsored by in viral cleanse so we have actually I think we
37:41
have a shot of lineup of their product line they offer a bunch of different products all of which are extremely
37:48
effective as well as gentle so they are all non-toxic and they've been
37:54
meticulously tested by several different labs and authority figures so I think
38:02
the US Army's protection for yeah the US there's a US Army Lab I have it
38:07
written down I believe I will tell you oh yeah I did read them the way US Army Center for a health promotion and
38:13
prevention yep so this is an independent lab guys who have tested their products Nelson Labs which is also really big one
38:20
MPI research so that's good they know their stuff this is it this is it so if
38:28
you guys are interested in checking out their line of products the lists of the link is below and it actually we I
38:36
believe we have both links to both air purification units as well so the UV model which is more specifically for
38:42
mold and the older model which is also for and we can actually show you a video
38:50
on how it kind of looks it's not very big it's not a very big minute we put a
38:56
plant on it we put a plant on it because we wanted to make it look a little yeah
39:03
they don't take up too much space but they're powerful little machines and I believe yes can we roll the installation
39:08
video oh we are rolling it right now great oh yes this is perfect right so
39:15
they have replaceable filter pads that I believe lasts about two to three months depending on the size of your home and
39:22
other unique factors everyday products
39:28
as well outside of the air purifiers you know maybe you're not ready for that right now you want to try out some of
39:33
their other products like the laundry enhancer yeah I'm sure I think is kind of cool yeah that just helps you can add
39:39
it in with your laundry yes which isn't just going to add a bunch of perfume to
39:44
mask the smell which I hate or any of
39:51
these other odor eliminators there's odor eliminating pads these granules yeah lots of things to get rid of
39:57
fragrances absolutely definitely do check them after researching them and
40:02
now we're fans of indoor air quality yes ambassadors Oh Sara actually has a
40:09
really good question yeah and this is this is good Sara asked what advice do you have for improving indoor air quality in the
40:16
wintertime which is really good because most of the time we don't want to open our windows in the wintertime and in the
40:25
wintertime is often when we would be more interested in having a humidifier so there's definitely different types of
40:31
humidifiers you can get especially like a colder air humidifier that still does
40:37
do some elimination as well as adding a little bit of moisture to the air can be helpful a lot of the other things that
40:42
we mentioned so always using your ventilation if you have your fan in your bathroom when you're cooking you always
40:48
want to make sure you have your overhead fan going making sure you're minimizing your chemical and vo sea exposure by
40:55
using non-toxic chemicals in the home honestly I would say this is where air purifier is actually gonna come get more
41:01
handy too because you can't have that ventilation or open your windows or maybe you don't even want fans as much
41:07
because you're feeling cold yeah at home that's where I think an air purifier is very helpful yep absolutely perfect for
41:14
all seasons yeah great question yeah very very good question but we have run
41:19
out of time for today thank you guys so much for tuning in hopefully you found this we kind of geeked out about it a
41:25
little bit I know I'm gonna go home and vacuum right now it's it's really bad
41:31
