Hi guys, I'm Talia Chai and welcome to Real Food Live
0:22
Today I'm going to be showing you a little tip that can come in handy when you want to
0:26
store fresh herbs. So we all know we go to the store and herbs come in this really big package and you only
0:34
use a little bit in cooking here and there and then you have so many herbs left over
0:39
that you don't know what to do with and they go bad in the fridge or the freezer and it's
0:43
just a disaster. This is a really simple trick that only requires an ice cube tray and with this trick you will
0:53
prolong the life of your herbs keeping them fresh and enhancing your cooking for months
0:59
and months. So all you need is some herbs and what I like to do, you can see here I have some oregano
1:06
I have rosemary and I have thyme. Make sure you pick the leaves off the stems because the woody stems won't be as good and
1:15
we don't need them in our actual cooking. So you pick the leaves off, you can give them a rough chop if you want
1:20
I'm going to say the more fibrous herbs like these ones are the best options because they'll
1:26
sit in the oil and preserve a little bit better than the softer ones like parsley or cilantro
1:32
So what I'm going to do is I have a clean ice cube tray here, I'm going to sprinkle
1:36
in some herbs into each cube just like this and you can do rosemary in one, thyme in one
1:48
oregano in one or you can combine them all into different cubes
1:52
Totally up to you, have fun with it, get crazy, play around and I'm going to do separate ones
2:02
for all of them because depending on what you're cooking like oregano may not go with
2:06
everything so just going to split them up that way and you're just filling up the ice
2:13
cubes about halfway, not all the way to the top and then the fun part comes in
2:23
All you need is some olive oil and I recommend using good quality extra virgin olive oil
2:29
and I always like to sniff it, smells really really fruity and really nice and all I'm
2:37
going to do is pour the olive oil on top of the herbs making sure it's covering the
2:43
herbs once again just a little bit more than halfway up the top
2:50
When you pop this in the freezer, I would leave it in the freezer overnight just to
2:54
set and they turn into this kind of milky white yellow creamy cube color, they're really
3:01
beautiful and all you have to do is whenever you're ready to cook, pull it out of the freezer
3:10
grab an ice cube and throw it into your pot or your pan of whatever you're making with
3:14
heat and then your olive oil is taken care of and you have an automatic flavor burst
3:19
of all these gorgeous fresh herbs that otherwise would have probably ended up in the garbage
3:25
I hope you guys love this trick, I do this all the time, it really really comes in handy
3:31
so have fun with it and I'll see you in the next video
