Hey guys, I am Talia Chai and welcome to Real Food Live
0:24
Today I am going to be showing you how to make a DIY flu shot
0:27
It's so simple and easy and you can make it any time of year when you feel like something
0:32
is starting to come on and you may be getting a little bit sick
0:36
Alright let's get started. So very simple, very quick. I have some hot water here
0:42
Now let's make sure that the water is hot but not boiling because we are using some
0:49
very sensitive, heat sensitive ingredients and we want to make sure we are preserving
0:54
the nutrients in the ingredients we are using. So I have my hot water
0:58
To this I am going to add minced fresh ginger root. I'm going to add some ground turmeric powder
1:11
Smells amazing by the way. The ginger just smells so warming and fragrant
1:17
Some cayenne pepper. Now just a pinch of cayenne pepper. If you don't like spicy you can add a little bit less
1:23
If you do you can add a little bit more, up to you. A little bit of black pepper which you may think is a little strange but the reason why
1:30
I'm adding the black pepper is because black pepper and turmeric work synergistically together
1:36
and it helps bring out the anti-inflammatory properties in the turmeric. And you don't really taste it anyways
1:43
The cayenne takes over. And then of course some raw honey. Now make sure whenever you're cooking for health that the honey you're using is raw
1:53
or unpasteurized. The reason for that is because honey naturally has really wonderful antibacterial properties
2:03
that soothe and coat your throat so especially when your throat feels dry or itchy you want
2:09
to make sure it's raw so you get all the benefits and the enzymes and they're not being destroyed
2:15
by the heat and the pasteurization. I'm going to give that a little mix
2:20
Mix that until it's nice and combined. Last but not least, lemon juice
2:26
So I'm going to squeeze the juice of about one lemon in
2:30
It's going to be really tart and sour which I love. I love the flavor of lemon, fresh lemon juice
2:38
Keep in mind I really recommend you use a real lemon, not store-bought lemon juice
2:42
It makes a big difference in terms of the nutrients. And lemons are a great source of vitamin C. So not just oranges, actually red peppers
2:53
are a great surprise source of vitamin C. You may not have known that but for this recipe
2:57
we're going to be using lemons. They help to support the liver and they add really nice flavor to this recipe as well
3:06
So mixing that all together. And I would recommend mixing this in something that has a little spout because next we're
3:17
going to pour it up into our shot glasses and it just makes it a little bit easier
3:22
So this is good for about four shots. You just want to pour it into your shot glasses
3:31
If you don't have a shot glass that's okay. Any type of mug will do
3:35
You don't just have to do one shot of this. You can drink the whole thing
3:40
But know that this is very concentrated and potent. So one shot will give you a lot of nutrients
3:48
So you're getting good bang for your buck. And that's it guys. Have a look
3:52
Beautiful orange color. Very very vibrant. So the ginger and the cayenne help to really boost the circulation in your system and they
4:01
warm the body which makes you actually sweat a little bit which is great when you're not
4:06
feeling well because we release a lot of our toxins through our sweat
4:10
So detoxifying, great for the immune system, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, all in one
4:19
little shot. Cheers. Something great to pull out of the pantry when you're not feeling well and enjoy
4:26
I hope you feel better soon. Thanks for watching guys. Mmm.
