Hey guys, I'm Talia Chai and welcome to Real Food Live
0:21
And today I'm going to show you a fancy little knife skill, how to dice a pineapple
0:27
Really really simple guys, not much to it, but follow along and you will always feel
0:32
confident when you are in the fruit section. You can just pick one of these babies up and not be intimidated
0:39
All you need is a bowl and a knife. So I'm going to lay the pineapple down on its side, cut off the top, which I think looks
0:51
really pretty. Kind of maybe you could use it as decoration, I don't know, get creative
0:58
Cut off the bottom. And now I stand it up vertically, just like that
1:07
This is the easy part. All I'm going to do is I'm going to take my knife and I'm going to score around the edges
1:16
removing the skin and then any of those little circular kind of burrs, those fibrous things
1:24
that if someone doesn't cut those off, they kind of burn your mouth and cut the inside
1:29
of your mouth. We don't want to do that. So we'll get rid of as much as we can in this first cut and then I like to go through, look
1:37
around and see if I missed any and get them in the second cut
1:42
Now summer is approaching, so it's pineapple time, right? Smoothies, daiquiris, blended everything or just to snack on
1:54
So now I'm just going to spin it around and look, see if I missed anything
1:58
I see a little green fibrous bit there that can go away
2:04
See what else? One over here. So that's all you're doing, just cleaning it up a little bit and that's it
2:10
Now we know there's that fibrous core in the middle, so now I'm going to cut, whoop, slippery
2:16
I'm going to cut slabs around the core. So as close to the core as I can, just cutting around it though because we're not going to
2:28
be eating that part. All right, there we go. So this is the core over here
2:35
Discard that. And now I have four cute little pineapple slabs. So this is really the easy part
2:45
All I'm going to do is cut it lengthwise like this and then crosswise, just the way you
2:56
would dice anything. Look at that, gorgeous chunks. This smells so good
3:06
This is a really nice ripe pineapple. A little trick that I like to use when I'm in the market or the grocery store is to smell
3:15
the bottom of the pineapple and it should smell exactly like a ripe pineapple
3:21
I don't know how else to describe it, but as long as the bottom smells super ripe, you
3:27
know you've got a good one. If it doesn't smell like anything, it is not ripe
3:33
That's my little tip for selecting pineapples. Our last little slab, done
3:42
There you have it, beautifully diced pineapple. And if you have any extra, a little tip of mine would be to put it in an airtight container
3:51
and store it in the freezer and then you can throw frozen pineapple chunks into anything
3:57
that you're making blended. It will be so, so, so delicious. So thanks for watching guys and I will see you in the next video
